The Young Somali Professionals of North America (YSPNA) is a nonpartisan organization for Somalis living in North America who share the common goal of networking and sharing ideas to better bring to the fore issues important to Somali communities in the US, Canada, and Somalia. YSPNA was created for a specific need. The need for Somali professionals in North America sharing the same values to regroup, unite and work together to alleviate their roles in society, to share resources and improve their career goals and those of fellow Somalis in North America.

Our core values are:

  • Democracy: We believe that the organization and its subsequent fields of work and study should be governed democratically. The members themselves will decide on bylaws, policy statements, projects, and research studies.

  • Diversity: Variety in education, personal interest, and belief is not only permissible but also desirable. We believe that a diverse and pluralist organization strengthens its goals and foundations.

  • Education and lifelong learning: YSPNA promotes the creation, maintenance and enhancement of a learning society, encouraging its members to work together and also with educators, government officials and organizations in coalitions to support academic work, learning, and teaching in communities throughout North America and Somalia to promote knowledge.

  • Social responsibility: YSPNA recognizes its broad social responsibilities. The broad social responsibilities of YSPNA members are defined in terms of the contribution that education, networking and leadership can make in ameliorating or solving the critical problems of society. YSPNA will support efforts to help inform and educate Somali professionals on these problems and enable them to examine the many views on each problem.
